The Spencer Senior Citizen’s Board will convene a Special Meeting at 2:00 p.m.

at Spencer City Hall at 8200 N.E. 36^th Street, Spencer, Oklahoma.

PLEASE NOTIFY SPENCER CITY HALL AT (405) 771-3226 no later than 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 7^th, 2006 IF YOU DESIRE A SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER AT THIS MEETING.

Pursuant to legal notice required by the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act, including posting of an agenda as required by the terms, thereof, the Spencer City Council met in regular session at Spencer City Hall, located at 8200 NE 36^th Street, Spencer, Oklahoma on August 8, 2006.

            The meeting was called to order at 2:06 P.M. by Earl Syth.

2. Roll call and declaration that a quorum is present.

3. Flag Salute and Invocation.

            Invocation and flag salute was led by Earl Syth.

4. Discussion and action on the appointment of new members to the Senior Citizen’s Board.  

            There is only 1 opening with 2 prospective candidates:  Rufus Biggs and

            Geraldine Nichols, both were present. 

            Hazel Sherman made the suggestion that a man hold the position and

            recommended Rufus Biggs. 

            Motion made by Hazel Sherman, no second

            Ayes:  Hazel Sherman, Earline Jones, Earl Syth

            Nays:  None

            Motion passed

5. Remarks and Comments by the Members.

            Tonni Canaday requested a list of repairs needing to be made at the center.  Earl Syth reported that Antwine (who does the repair work   at the center) does not charge.

            Gravel and picnic table were donated, but need more gravel.

            Eating attendance has dropped, more adults are needed.

            Tonni asked why was meeting held at City Hall instead of at the Senior Center?  Has the center given authority over to City Hall?  The board

            stated they would rather have meetings at the center, it is more convenient.

            They will possibly seek advice from City Attorney on the City’s  involvement.

6. Adjournment.

            Meeting adjourned at 2:45 P.M.

The Spencer Senior Citizen's Center is a community facility that is dedicated to the enjoyment of the senior population of the City of Spencer. The Senior Center currently offers activities including: Hot Meals, Games, Health Checks, Good Conversation and Transportation. Hot meals are provided in a social setting, through the Senior Nutrition Program. For those who are unable to join at the center for a meal, homebound delivery is also available. Coffee and snacks are offered during the morning hours when games such as dominoes and bingo are played. FREE blood pressure/blood sugar checks are offered on the 2^nd Tuesday of each month. In addition the Center offers a Ride Program to assist in transportation to and from the Center. On Tuesdays and Thursdays transportation is available to local shopping centers including Wal-Mart, Crest and the Dollar Store. The Nutrition Program is available to anyone 60+ years of age. No income criteria or Membership Fees required. An “Older Americans Act Assessment Form” is necessary to determine nutritional health. Donations of $1.50 are accepted and appreciated.
